"I love you and I respect you."
Happy Valentine's Day!
Love is beautiful.
Love is blissful.
Love is endless.
Do you know what's more important than love?
Respect.
In the last few months, I've started saying something a little different to my little one because I'm working hard to consciously be aware of my words around her.
I would look at her and tell her "I love you and I respect you." And give her a hug.
Sometimes, I'll just say "I respect you."
In response, even if she's crying or throwing a tantrum, she takes her time and says "I respect you, Amma."
I'm doing this for many reasons, but mainly because I want her to understand that regardless of her age, gender, colour of her skin, religion, ethnicity and country of birth, she has the right to be treated with respect.
This starts at home.
I love you, my Blue Valentine!
And more importantly, I respect you, my Bright Blue Bug!
